Artist's Description
Photographic art print of the Durango & Silverton narrow guage train making it's way up the mountain from Durango to Silverton. Image shot by Deborah League.
Taking a scenic ride on the Durango & Silverton train is not to be missed when visiting Durango. I recommend the open air car for the best views as the train winds it's way up the mountain. The railway is a federally designated National Historic Landmark and is also designated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The route was originally opened in 1882 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad to transport silver and gold ore mined from the San Juan Mountains.
