Description
Vibrant red Bougainvillea against a blue sky with both cirrocumulus and cirrostratus clouds on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Truly Red, White and Blue!
Bougainvillea is a popular landscaping plant in Hawaii because of its abundant and vibrant red blooms. Interestingly, what we think of as the blooms are actually modified leaves. The bougainvillea's actual flowers are much smaller and usually white.
Maui skies never disappoint and they often put on displays filled with beautiful and varied clouds. This photo displays both cirrocumulus and cirrostratus. Cirrocumulus clouds look like small rows of little circular clouds. The clouds that you see outside on a mostly sunny day are usually cumulus clouds. These are fluffy and dispersed all over the sky. These are the cloud that people often see shapes in, as they are not all bunched together.
