Description
Red Poppies On Black Background alcohol ink art print. If you’re looking to add a little drama to your surroundings, look no further than “Red Poppies On Black.” This alcohol ink print features three vibrant red flowers anchored by lime green stems and leaves against a jet black background all of which appear to be lit from within. Just wow!
After World War I, the poppy flourished in Europe. This growth was attributed to soils in France and Belgium becoming enriched with lime from the rubble left by the war. Hence, the red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed during battle following the publication of the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields.” The poem was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D. while serving on the front lines.
The Poppy is considered important in the realms of religion, mythology, politics, and medicine. Often found growing along roadside ditches, these flowers have been written about by poets and helped doctors relieve their patients pain for centuries.
Depending on the culture, the Poppy can be a symbol of rest and recovery, consolation for a loss, remembrance of the fallen, a vivid imagination, peace in death, messages from dreams, resurrection, eternal life, beauty and success, extravagance and luxury. The symbolism varies greatly from country to country, but most of them share at least one or two common meanings for this particular flower.

This is stunning Deborah! I am quite fond of the serendipitous nature of alcohol inks myself and am well aware of how difficult it can be to work on black, but it can create such wonderful drama when done right and you nailed it! l/f
