If you’re looking to add a little drama to your surroundings, look no further than “Red Poppies On Black.” This alcohol ink print features three vibrant red flowers anchored by lime green stems and leaves against a jet black background all of which appear to be lit from within. Just wow!
After World War I, the poppy flourished in Europe. This growth was attributed to soils in France and Belgium becoming enriched with lime from the rubble left by the war. Hence, the red poppy came to symbolize the blood shed during battle following the publication of the wartime poem “In Flanders Fields.” The poem was written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, M.D. while serving on the front lines.
