While in Verona, Italy this summer we stopped to see the bronze statue of Shakespeare's Juliet. She is located in the courtyard of Casa di Giulietta, which is situated in the very center of the medieval town, in the Via di Cappello. The Gothic style house, once owned by the Cappello family and just a few minutes’ walk from the arena, was purchased by the city in 1905 for the purpose of displaying the statue and setting up a museum for tourists.
Never mind that Juliet wasn't a real person and that this house has no relation to the story, just go and see. Behind the statue you will see notes on the walls, left by lovers from all over the world with their beloved’s name written on them. The statue in the courtyard is actually a bronze replica, created in 2014, after the original statue was moved inside the entrance to the Cappelletti house. The move was made necessary due to damage caused by decades of exposure to tourists, who believe that touching the statue's right breas...
