Description
Beautiful summertime view features a curved bridge on the cart path at Dalton Ranch Country Club, in Durango, Colorado spanning a pond, distant mountains, and puffy cumulus clouds, both in the sky and reflected in the pond.
Durango is in the southwestern part of the Rocky Mountains state of Colorado. Things to do in Durango include whitewater rafting, skiing, biking, horseback riding, fishing, snowmobiling and riding the Durango train. This town is perhaps most famous for the historic narrow gauge railroad that connects Durango with Silverton. It is the largest town in southwest Colorado with a population of about 16,000. In the city center, a railroad museum related to the Durango and Silverton railroad displays restored locomotives, aircraft and a baggage car converted into a movie theater. Nearby, the Powerhouse Science Center offers interactive exhibits in a former power plant.
The Durango & Silverton Railroad is a narrow-gauge heritage railroad that operates 45 miles of track between Durango and Silverton. The railway is a federally designated National Historic Landmark and is also designated by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
The route was originally opened in 1882 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad to transport silver and gold ore mined from the San Juan Mountains.
