Description
Photographic art print of the sun rising through the clouds on Haleakala, Maui, Hawaii.
Getting up well before dawn to make the winding drive in the dark up Haleakala to view the sunrise from the mountain peak is one of the most spectacular things you can do when on Maui. This incredible daily event led early Hawaiians to name the peak the "House of the Sun."
Located in Haleakala National Park, the volcano, which has not erupted for more than 200 years, is visited by more than one million visitors each year. The road rises 10,000 feet in only 38 miles and is believed to be the world's steepest route from sea level to 10,000 feet. Expect temperatures at the peak to be at least 30 degrees cooler than down in town so pack accordingly and bring a jacket. From total darkness to sunrise can take up to an hour.
